DHQ to Build Invictus Games Center in Nigeria for Wounded Soldiers

The Defence Headquarters has rolled out plans for the construction of Invictus games center in Nigeria.

This was announced during a reception in honour of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan to provide support to the amputated soldiers.

As it was announced, the objective is to ensure the wounded soldiers overcome emotional trauma as a result of injuries sustained in active service to the father land.

At the reception, Prince Harry expressed emotional gratitude to Nigeria for being the first African country to join the Invictus games community.

He appreciated the government for buying the idea.

The Minister of Defence, Alhaji Muhammed Badaru commended the Duke and Duchess for having such creative vision to establish the Invictus games and their willingness to support the wounded soldiers.

He assured of government commitment to support the amputated and the wounded soldiers, adding that government will collaborate with the Invictus Games Foundation.

Speaking at the event, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. CG Musa who initiated Invictus Games for the country, appreciated the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for making the whole thing possible.

He promised that the Nigeria Armed Forces would be fully involved in the initiative.

In his speech at the event, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, ably represented by Major General Akpor, restated the commitment of the Nigerian Army to support the wounded soldiers, both Nigeria and abroad.

He announced the provision of N88 million for the procurement of limb prosthetics, underscoring efforts to elevate soldiers’ quality of life, and to provide solution for wounded soldiers who are undergoing emotional trauma.

Testimonies were given by two soldiers who are participating in the Invictus games.

Dim Nwachukwu and Peace Mega, testified that the game gave them reason to be happy and fully recovered from the mental health they were undergoing before they join the Invictus games.

They appreciated the CDS, Gen. CG Musa for giving them the opportunity to get back to their normal lives again.
