The Federal Government has appealed to the Organised Labour, not to embark on strike over the new minimum wage bill in the National Assembly.

Labour and Productivity Minister, Dr. Chris Ngige, made this known during a meeting of the labour advisory council in Owerri, Imo state.

The Minister said that he is in support of labours opposition to the bill, but they should not embark on strike over the issue.

Mr. President need not to thank me for what i said about the minimum wage bill, because I was re -echoeing what the Nigerian govt. stood for, by adopting the ILO convention 28 minimum wage fixing machine convention of 1928, and the minimum wage fixing machine convention of 1970.

The bill which is before the House of Reps, seeks to remove the national minimum wage from the exclusive, to the concurrent legislative list.
