Eid-el-Kabir: FG Urge to Prevent Future Insecurity that May Arise Following the Removal of Fuel Subsidy, Electricity Tariff Hike- Sarki
From Marcel Duru, Owerri
The Representative of Sarki in this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration, Madaki Hausawa of Imo State, Alhaji Munkailu Ahmed has called on the President, Alhaji Ahmed Bola Tinubu to work out adequate and comprehensive modalities to prevent future insecurity that may arise over removal of fuel subsidy and the planned electricity tariff hike in the country.
Speaking with journalist after the slaughtering of Ram at Sarki’s palace in Owerri, Imo State yesterday, he said that removal of fuel subsidy and the planned electricity tariff hike are not in the interest of the masses who are wallowing in abject poverty so far.
He further stated that the subsidy money will not ameliorate the sufferings of the masses because the government will centralise and disburse it in their budget sharing, adding that only top government functionaries, politicians, Ministers and top shots in Nigeria will benefit and the common people will not benefit anything but words of exaltation.
Madaki however disclosed that when he became sceptical about the removal of fuel subsidy was when the Economists within the country and those in diaspora advised the Federal Government on the differentiation of quantifiable and unquantifiable benefits ahead of the removal of oil subsidy which the Federal Government backed down.
He opined that very few people are going to enjoy the savings from fuel subsidy removal, share it, store it and invest the money in different countries of the world, and ordinary Nigerians would continue to grind their teeth and die in abject poverty.
“I did not subscribe to the removal of fuel subsidy, electricity tariff hike, but I am saying that removal of fuel subsidy is not good, but it has to be done in a way that it will not have serious adverse effect or bite hard on the poor masses of this country; like now ordinary people in Nigeria cannot afford three square meal a day; cannot pay transport fare, neither pay school fees of their Children, nor house rents, let alone paying hospital bills. Let our leaders sacrifice for the common people of Nigeria as prophet Mohammed did to the whole World through this Celebration of Eid- El-Kabir”
