Environmental Pollution:Jos Central Rotary Club Plants Over 100 Trees in Plateau

In its quest towards addressing issues associated with environmental pollution, the Rotary club of Jos Central has planted over 100 win breaker trees at Nigeria Meteological Development Centre (NMDC) community in Plateau.
Performing the tree planting project at NMDC headquarters, Zaria road Jos on Tuesday, the President Rotary club of Jos Central, Rotarian Iyke Ofoegbu said the exercise is aim at mitigating environmental degradation taking into account the global warming that is alarming.
Ofoegbu revealed that any humanitarian project doing comes from the individual pocket of the members of club as they have been reaching out to schools and hospitals over the years.
He charged the benefiting community to nurture the trees for the well being of present and future generations.
District Governor nominee of the club, Rotarian Mike Okachi acknowledged that the tree planting was the first project of the year 2022 which the club embark upon.
He said the concept of tree planting was born out of international best practices which the club decided to adopt.
According to him, “protecting the environment is very key looking at the increasing rate of climate change which harmful to human inhabitants. Most climate change is caused by human beings as a result of unwarranted cutting down of trees.
“It has become a programme to start planting trees and to create awareness for the populace to see the reason why they should emulate such gesture.
“Planting trees during rainy season have a comparative advantage for the tree to water itself and mature to survive,” he mentioned.
NMDC community leader, Mr. Odeiga Alex while shower accolades to Rotary club of Jos Central for the humanitarian gesture with the assurance to maintain the tree.
The community leader said like Oliver twist they are looking further to the club’s assistance in other areas of human endeavours.
