Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang has expressed optimism over his victory at the Election Petition Tribunal, saying when justice is done the people feel it.

Governor Mutfwang who spoke to newsmen Friday in Jos, after Tribunal upheld election said, despite the criticism of the Judiciary he believed that there are men and women of integrity that, “sit on the bench and at the right time when they called upon they would do that which is right.

“Today, God has placed us to the side of victory. I want to thank God Almighty rest who has make this victory possible, and the good people of Plateau State for the resounding support through prayers.

“We salute enthusiasm of Judges that served in this Tribunal for God given them the heart to be honest, dedicated to bring justice in accordance with the dictate of their conscious and of course according to law.

“Justice is not something that is rocket science. When justice is done the people feel it and rejoiced. I therefore want to used this opportunity to called on my friends who were the petitioners, that it is time for us to unite and move the state forward.

“The litigation is unnecessary especially when it is cleared that the people have spoken.I therefore want to urged them to respect the wishes of the people of Plateau state and come let us work together. I believed that they have their contributions to make. Let us not allowed ourselves to be used by external forces, and let’s unite as a people and bring the dividends of democracy to our people”, the governor stated.

In a swift reaction, the All Progressive Congress, APC, said they were dissatisfied with the decision of the Tribunal as they head to Appeal Court to seek redress.

A statement by the state publicity secretary, Hon. Sylvanus Namang issued Wednesday in Jos, stated that,
though the Tribunal judgment did not turn out in favour of the party and its candidate, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda and Deputy Pam Botmang, as true democrats, we still believe and have strong faith in the judiciary.

“We urge our members and supporters never to lose hope as this is just the first leg of the processes of a three- leg process.

“The  APC in the state has never   been under any illusion that the   journey towards reclaiming its mandate at the Gubernatorial Tribunal is going to be an easy task. We knew from the onset that it would be a painstaking and turtous one.

“We are, through our very capable team of lawyers,  just as they have already indicated, going to test the strength  and veracity of today’s judgment at the Appeal Tribunal which we believe we shall emerge victorious given the severity of the loopholes contained therein.

“We have several instances in our judicial system where judgments at the Court of First Instance i.e the Tribunal are upturned by the Appeal Tribunals and Supreme Court respectively.

“Today’s judgment by the Tribunal is therefore, a temporary setback   which we believe we shall emerge victorious in the long run to continue to provide good governance to Plateau people based on rule of law, fairness and justice which is totally lacking under the present PDP- led administration”, Plateau APC mouthpiece mentioned.
