Plateau Deputy Governor, Piyo celebrates women as world marks International day of women in mining

Plateau State Deputy Governor, Hon. Josephine Piyo has congratulated women in the mining industry as they mark International Day of Women in Mining (IDWIM).
The International Day of Women in Mining which is observed on June 15 of every year, is a day dedicated to recognise and celebrates the contributions of women in the mining industry worldwide.
The annual global campaign that honours the achievements of all who identify as women and the advancement of inclusion, represents the continuous commitment to working collaboratively for gender equity in the sector.
Piyo stated that the day that carries an important theme ‘I am mining and I belong’ carries a very powerful message of inclusion, empowerment, claiming space, and advocating for positive change within an industry transforming.
She said that as the mining sector evolves, the phrase serves as a powerful reminder of the diverse individuals who contribute to it and the importance of creating a more inclusive and sustainable future for all.
The Deputy Governor lauded women all over the world who have continued to share a powerful story of belonging, resilience, and empowerment within the mining community.
She affirmed the commitment of the Mutfwang-led administration towards supporting women in mining in the state, adding that it acknowledges the importance of inclusivity and belonging for every individual in mining, regardless of background or role.
