Woman Leader Advocates for More Women Participation in Governance

The FCT Chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTs), Amb (Mrs) Rachael Adewumi has called on the new Chairmen of Abuja Area Council to involve more women in governance at the grass root level, if they hope to make an impact in their new assignments.
She said that, it would not only mark the beginning of recognizing justice, equity and fairness in leadership in the nation’s capital, but also enthrone smooth, excellent and prudent administration, which according to her would give FCT residents democratic dividends.
Recall that Area Council Chairmen and Councilors were sworn into office on Tuesday, 14th June 2022 at the Cyprian Ekwensi Centre for Arts and Culture, Area 10, Abuja by Justice Suleiman Belgore, who represented the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, and the Honorable Minister, FCT, Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello
While congratulating the new chairmen for the victories, during an interview with our Correspondent, in Abuja, Adewumi hailed the peaceful handing –over and reiterated the reason why they should involve women in governance.
The market woman leader reminded them of exploits of past and present women in leadership positions in some countries such as Queen Elizabeth of England, Indir Ghandi of India, Joyce Banda of Malawi, Margaret Thatcher of England, amongst others.
According to her, some of them have died or left office, but performed well while those that are still in office are performing above average.
On the importance of women in the society, Adewumi said that she has capable women in her Association, who have not only served the country excellently, but are doing very well after their retirement, which according to her, shows that they are not tired. She also informed that she equally has those who are not only doing well in business, but also participating effectively and actively in politics.
“These people, if involved in governance, would contribute immensely toward enthroning good leadership in the society,” she said.
You will also recall that the FCT Minister, Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello advised the Area Council Chairmen to devote more attention to health, insecurity, sanitation, and education, amongst others.
The six Abuja Area Council Chairmen and Councillors were elected on February, 13th 2022.
