Workers in Abia State Renews Strike to Press Home their Demands

Workers in The Abia State Government employed workers, today renew their last year strike action, that was suspended.The workers from Tuesday, the 9th of May 2023, commence an indefinite strike, as a result of non-payment of workers salaries, leave allowance, promotion areas and the arrears of pensions to pensioners owed to them by Ikpeazu administration.
Speaking with newsmen in Umuahia the Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress NLC Abia state chapter, Comrade Paschal Nweke said that the Union decided to embark on the strike following government failure to meet up with the demands of workers in the State.
He pointed out that the Labour has in the last few months had a dialogue with the state government over the arrears of salaries owed workers, the arrears of leaves allowance, promotion areas, but all the efforts proved abortive as government could not comply with the agreement reached during their meetings.
Comrade Nweke stated that the strike would only be called off when government comply to the demands of the State workers.
He directed the workers in the State to stay away from their various offices noting that a task force would be constituted to monitor the level of compliance of the strike action.
