2023 Presidency: TEKAN task Nigerians to disregard same faith candidates

Fellowship of Churches of Christ in Nigeria known as (TEKAN) has during it 67th General Church Council meeting resolved not to support and vote same Faith candidature of any political party in the forthcoming February 25th Presidential election.
A communique issued by the General Secretary of the fellowship Very Rev. Moses Ebuga on Tuesday in Jos, noted that the resolution is biding on all it millions members across Nigeria.
“The Assembly aligned itself with the position already taken by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) not to go for same Faith presidential ticket, which dose not mean well for the nation as it divisive and exclusive.”
The group admonished it members who are yet to obtain their permanent voters card, PVC’s should hurry up and collect theirs and get ready for the election coming in the next few days ahead.
“The Assembly reflected on the coming 2023 general elections that is a great opportunity for a new beginning in Nigeria. The Assembly noted with great concern the increasing tensions, hate language, anger and unguarded utterances by politicians and some religious leaders that have the potential of igniting violence and throw the county into state of anarchy. Having spent time praying for peaceful, just, and credible elections”.
The Christian religious group expressed worries over rising cases of insecurities and comments been made by some Presidential candidates of political parties capable of causing fresh civil unrest.
The Assembly also called on her members to vote in accordance with the guidelines issued by CAN based on Character, Competence, Capabilities and Policies.
TAKAN challenged federal government to pioritize it primary responsibility of protecting lives and prosperity across the country.
“The General Assembly calls on the federal government to rise to its constitutional responsibility in addressing the lingering security situation ravaging the nation.”
TEKAN also called on the Federal Government and the Political Class to work towards Peace, healing and reconciliation based on justice for all.
The communique cautioned it members and entire citizens to be vigilant against forces that could possibly ruined them.
“At the expiration of the tenure of the current leadership, the 67″ General Assembly elected the following officers for a tenure of three years: The President: Rev. Joel S. Billi of EYN Vice President: Very Rev. Dave Denji Danjuma of ERCC Assistant General Secretary: Rev. Assoc. Prof Benjamin Pokol of COCIN The Treasurer: Mrs. Catherine John of TEKAN”.
