NPC engages media towards effective 2023 nationwide census

Ahead of the 2023 Nigeria’s nationwide census, the National Population Commission (NPC), has engaged Journalists on the Plateau to ensure a successful exercise.
The NPC one day capacity building workshop for Journalists on effective reporting of the 2023 population and housing census, drawn participants across different media platform.
Honourable Federal commissioner NPC-Plateau state, Mrs. Cecilia Dapoet acknowledged the task before the commission is a herculean one and collaborating with the media is very key in propagating the activities of the commission.
“Your assignment is very important as it will go a long way in educating and reaching out to the public,most especially those at the hinterland to give the commission maximum cooperation.We want 2023 census on the Plateau to successful.
Dapoet who was represented by the state Director of the commission, Mr. Pam Du Deme while giving an insight on process and methodology for the 2023 census.
According to him, the commission will create a database of Enumerators and distribute them by enumeration area identification (EAI) from the approved list of the census functionaries.
Use the geo-codes in the maps to identity and list building and households therein, the retrieval of data from the servers and preparing for analysis, analysis and dissemination of data to inform users of the data collected in phases as well as dissemination and further analysis of data.
Mr. Jick Lawrence who hinted on enumeration area demarcation (EAD) and mapping for the 2023 census, revealed the commission deployed two satellite technology to captured buildings in the 17 LGA of Plateau.
He said, conduct of the exercise is entirely digital format which at the end of census exercise can produced accurate, credible and reliable data.
Lawrence further highlighted some of the benefits of the 2023 census which includes; demographic data for national planning and development, empowerment of about 1.5 million Nigerians, reflation of the economy as well as enduring capacity building benefits in the area of information communication technology, ICT.
Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Plateau State council comrade Paul Jatau commended NPC for engaging Journalists in the state, noting that the census exercise has been long overdue.
He prayed for the partnership to remain constant as the door of NUJ is always open.
