ABSU VC Calls for Reorientation of Security Personnel for Effective Policing

The Vice Chancellor of the Abia State University, Uturu, Prof. Maxwell Ogbulu, has advocated for the reorientation of the serving Security Personnel in the country so as to prepare and equip them with modern trends on policing.
The VC made the call during the Public presentation of a Book, titled on Contemporary Issues in Policing” written by CSP Emmanuel Nwakanma, the ADC to the State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, in Umuahia, the VC stated that, an attempts to reform the Nigeria Police and other Security Agencies may not yield the desired results with out reorientation of the security personnel.
The ABSU V C, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the institution Administration, Prof. Ogbonnaya Onuoha who informed the gathering, that Prof. Ogbulu was absent from the book presentation as he was attending to a team from the Nigeria University Commission, NUC that were in the institution, to review some academic courses.
Prof Ogbulu described the author of the Book who is the Principal Security Officer to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu as cerebral trained officer that has through the book brought his wide experience and idea to the public domain.
For him to write a Book on Contemporary issues shows his concern in proffering solutions to the insecurity challenges facing the Country. The book should be recommended to students at the Nigeria Police Academy”, he maintained
He decried a situation whereby Nigeria Security Personnels on Foreign mission return home with accolades while back home a lot of “Indiscipline is everywhere”
Ogbulu noted that Security should be everyone’s business and should not be left alone in the hands of security agents.
In his brief remarks, Governor- Ikpeazu who was represented by his Deputy, Dr Ude Okochukwu described the principal security officer as being humane person and dedicated officer.
“ For some one who has tried to make out time to write the book shows how committed he is in his chosen profession of policing the State and the Country through writing the book.
“The beat legacy anyone can leave for his generation is to put his idea in the book form
In his presentation, the Book Reviewer, Prof. Uwaoma Uche, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Gregory University, Uturu, disclosed that the book clearly draws the distinction between intelligence led Policing and brute Force. “It adopts the Scholarship approach as an effective methodology good n dealing with the Policing challenges of the modern era.
“The book further attempts to x-ray the benefits of modern Policing models in advancing Police efficiency”, he said
Earlier in his remarks, the author of the book, Emmanuel Nwakanma thanked the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba whom he described as a Father, for giving the officers and the men of Nigerian Police, the opportunity to excel in their chosen field of human endeavour.
He maintained that the book is an academic attempt at resolving the ever changing challenges confronting the modern Policing.
