CDS Declares Close Maiden Abuja National Skating Competition

… Commends Skating Federation , Calls for more Youth Participation
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa has over the weekend, declared closed the first ever Abuja National Skating Competition.
The CDS observed that the event was ” agog with thrilling skating skills and showcase of talents”.
Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director, Defence Information in a statement informed that the competition which was aimed at fostering peace and unity amongst Nigerian children, youths and to increase the popularity of the sport was competed in three categories; Half marathon Race, Slalom display and aggressive Ramp jump.




He stated that General Musa further maintained that the competition is to discourage crimes in our society.
The CDS also described the event as a ” Giant leap and indicative milestone of the tremendous progress the Skating Federation, while commending the Skating President, Major General Maikano Abdullahi for initiating a workable amd pragmatic vision for children and youths. He also showered appreciation on all those who contributed towards the success of the event.
The event which took place at the MKO Abiola Stadium with a 42.5 Skating Marthon Race will see the winner represent Nigeria at the World Championship in Greece next year.
Major General Maikano also discosed prior to the event that the aim of the championship is to take Nigerian Flag to the World Skating arena and to ensure that the sport becomes popular among the country’s youths and children. Over 2000 youths from about 20 State participated at the event.
