Enugu State House of Assembly has decided to stepped down the new bill for former Governors, and deputies on Tuesday.

The bill was presented last week during the plenary, but generated condemnation from the public.

The general public had sported out that when the bill passes, the State would be spending over #1.1b annually on the so called Ex- Governors, and Deputies pensions, while over #1.25 would be used to purchase vehicles for the five Ex- Governors and Deputies.

The House then decided to stepped down the bill during its plenary on Tuesday, following the motion moved by the Majority leader, Hon. Ikechwu Ezugwu, who is also the sponsor of the bill.

The Majority leader when trying to step down the bill, said though, it’s not out of proportion, but he said, he needed to do so because of the out cry of the Masses, which they must not ignore as they were the people that sent them to the House.

He further stated that there is need to consult properly before the bill could be reintroduced, if there’s needed.

The motion which the Majority leader moved, was seconded by the Deputy leader, Onyinye Ugwu.

The Speaker of the House, Edward Ubosi, said in his speech that there were a lot of provisions in the bill that were not constitutional. He pointed out the payment of salaries of the spouses of the former Governors, and their deputies.
