The Nigerian Military Authorities has assured Nigerians that its officers are on standby to assist in forestalling any plans capable of disrupting the country before, during and after the transition billed to take place by May 29, 2023.

They warned anybody/politicians planning to scuttle May 29 handover to dismiss the idea forthwith.

The Director of Defence Media Operation, Maj.-Gen. Musa Danmadami, issued this warning while responding to questions from journalists after the bi-weekly press briefing, in Abuja.

He emphasized that the Armed forces are ready to forestall any unwelcomed development in the country capable of disrupting the transition process.

He recalled the statement issued a fortnight ago, where Defence Headquarters vowed to track down anybody planning to destabilize the peace of the country during the inauguration.

Again, reacting to the questions at the briefing, Danmadami, reiterated that the military are committed to ensure smooth inauguration of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu come May 29.

He stressed, “as far as internal security is concerned, it’s the responsibility of police to lead other security agencies. The armed forces and other security operatives are only playing a supportive role. I can assure Nigerians, we are on standby to make sure that nothing went wrong.

“The issue of threat to the security and stability of the country will be seriously addressed promptly,” he asured.

He said, “the elections are over. The president-elect has been declared, what’s next inauguration.

“And the transition committee has been put in place comprising all members of the security agencies, ministries and agencies of government to ensure that the event is conducted successfully and without trouble.

“There is no reasons why there should be problem during the inaugural activities. The inauguration will come and go as election, nothing will happen. We are not going to relent at ensuring there is peace and stability across the length and breath of our country,” the senior military officer declared.

On the issues of security in
Kaduna state particularly Southern parts, the Media Director, Danmadami, urged the people of the State to disregard the allegations that the Military is sentimental.

He explained further that the military is always ready to help, adding that the matter reported by the community to the high command against its personnel is under investigation.

Recalled, the Atyap people under the auspices of ACDA had faulted the security report on the recent killings in the area by the Sector Commander, Operation Safe Haven in Southern Kaduna, Brigadier General Timothy Opurum, saying his report was biased, lopsided, unbalanced and misleading.

Danmadami explained, “Whether we like it or not, sentiment will always come up, particularly when things are not favorable to your disposition. As it is normal in the military, when such allegations are raised, a board of inquiry would be raised to investigate the allegations.”

“And whatever the outcomes and recommendations, such matter will be tackled by the authority and it would be addressed accordingly,” he summited
