Nigeria Army does not deploy its troops base on Ethnic/ Religious

The Director of Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. M.M Yerima has refuted claims made by a respected Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Ahmed Gumi alleging that Non Moslem soldiers were responsible for the attack against bandits.

According to the Army spokesman, there was a viral video clip showing the Islamic scholar telling some bandits that the attacks which was carried out against them were done by non Moslem soldiers, stating that soldiers have been divided into Muslems, and non-Muslems.

Brig. Gen. M.M Yerima therefore warned Sheikh Gumi not to drag the image, and reputation of the Military into disrepute.

He said most operations carried out by the Nigeria Army, were done in strict adherence to rules of engagement, code of conduct, and respect for the fundamental human right of the citizenry, without any exception.

He Further stated that the Nigeria Army has continually defended the integrity of this great nation, without any religious, or ethnic sentiment, stating that comment suggesting to mudslides the image of the Military, are not only inimical, but also creating a bad blood among Nigerians.

He therefore urged opinion leaders to be courteous in their views, considering the security challenges in the country, stating that the Military need public support to discharge their responsibilities effectively, and in a professional way.
