Nigeria Army takes free medical outreach to Plateau amidst 161 anniversary

Thousands of Plateau citizens benefitted from the free medical treatment organized by the Nigeria Army, intensify priority for achieving maximum peace and security through kinetic and non kinetic means in the state

The gesture is to foster civil-military relation as the Army observed Nigeria Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2024, which coincided with Army’s 161 year anniversary come 6th Saturday,2024, held in Plateau.

Flagging off free medical treatment Wednesday at University of Jos Primary School premises, Chief of Army staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja said the medical outreach is simultaneously taking place in all the formations and units of the Nigeria Army.

Lagbaja revealed the Army painstaking providing medical services because access to medical care has been a challenged to vulnerable Nigerians.

Said, what makes this medical outreach special is the presence of the Army leadership here on the Plateau. 

“The Chief of Army Staff has sent representatives because he is occupied with other significant activities, such as commissioning projects in various local government areas across Plateau State. These projects benefit the good people of Plateau State.

“The grand finale of the celebrations will take place on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Maxwell Kobe Cantonment, Rukuba, where a parade will be held. This medical outreach is a testament to the Army’s dedication to the well-being of the people in and around the barracks and other communities”, he stated.

He implored Nigerians to continue collaborating with the security agencies and disassociate from any activity tantamount to insecurity.

Brig.Gen SO Okoigi, acting Commander Corps of Medical, confirmed the medical outreach is aimed at providing much needed medical care and attention to the good people of Angwan Rogo and its environs.

“The Outreach will provide primary health care services which include: free medical consultations, dental care, nursing services, laboratory/ investigation and screening, drugs dispensing, HIV screening and counselling services, eye tests with free prescription glasses and many more.”

Our correspondent reports that there were free distribution of wheelchairs, crutches, mosquito nets, assorted eye glass, and medicine.

One of the wheelchair beneficiary,Amina Mohammed, said to have spent over ten years crawling until now that the Nigeria Army came to her rescue.
