By Daniel Agada, Jos
Facing by challenges of insufficient energy, the Plateau State Government has on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Wavelength Integrated Power services Limited to boost renewable energy and other sectors of the economy in the state.
Speaking shortly after the signing of the MoU at Old Government House Rayfield, Secretary to the Government of Plateau State, Prof. Danladi Atu said right from the inception of present administration under Governor Simon Lalong, the Government is making effort towards stabilizing power sector in the state most especially in Southern zone where there is high deficiency of energy.
Atu acknowledged that Government is much ready to sign an MoU with any investor that can yield a fruitful result to the state as he challenged Wavelength Integrated Power services Limited to do the needful.
According to him, “Your coming on board would add value to the sources of power as you would help the unserved communities to tap and process the abundant untapped renewable energy for their socio-economic wellbeing.”
He assured the investors of Government readiness to provide conducive secure business environment, calling on other organizations to emulate Wavelength Integrated power services Limited.
The Commissioner ministry of water resources and energy, Hon. Sa’ad Bello said the signing of an MoU is timely. Noting the solar mini-Grid project of Demshin, Angwan Rina and Shimankar in Shendam LGA which Government signed an MoU with Community Energy Social Enterprises Limited (CESEL) beginning to yield a result.
In his words:”With the solar system energy people in those communities are now milling their grains which is very cheaper than diesel that they are using before.
“The renewable energy would be served to the unserved power communities in the state and other activities as contained in the MoU”, the commissioner mentioned.
Managing Director of Wavelength Integrated Power services, David Idem stated that the opportunity that the state Government has given to us is to drop the adoption of renewable energy in those areas that were not connected to the National Grid.
“This is an understanding which I believed we have done in other states that once we deploy this we will be able to improve the livelihood of the people in those communities. And beyond even dropping renewable energy in those communities that we went for, we are going to trained people from those communities on how they can move into renewable energy business and can imagine the number of massive opportunity and funding that is coming to this sector from World Bank and even the present Government.
“So we are going to train people in those communities, positioning them to take advantage of the investment that is coming to this sector.
“Apart from having access to electricity, we would also empower them in terms of employment opportunity with the Government towards the achievement of Federal Government SDG 7, which speaks access to renewable energy and that is what we are up to. So in the first phase we are looking at about five Local Government Areas, and we also have the mandate of the state Government to do across the state.”
