The Interim Transition Committee Chairman of Shendam Local Government Council of Plateau state, Dr.Nicholas Nshe, has moved to prioritised provision of portable drinking water, security and others to the populace.

He also affirmed commitment on networking with security agencies and stakeholders to address insecurity bedeviling the locality.

Dr. Nicholas Nshe who was a former Chairman Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, Plateau state chapter, while addressing a mammoth crowd after taken over mantle of leadership on Wednesday at the Shendam Local Government council Secretariat, acknowledged that unity is very sacrosanct in providing good governance at the grassroot.

He expressed disappointment that since he left office in 2015 and APC administration came on board, they did not add value to council Secretariat, as most facilities there were bastardized.

“I am in this office for the fourth term now. It is only by the divine grace and mercy of God.

“When I saw crowd that received us I am overwhelmed and I was shedding tears because I know we add3 value to the people and they still need a lot from us and God willing, we are determine to provide genuine leadership.

“There are so many challenges, but the first important one now is to provide portable drinking water because we cannot have a dam in Shendam Local Government and then we don’t have a drinking water.

“I know during our last tenure we sank more than 450 boreholes. We won the EU’s N2.5 billion, but yet people in this town don’t have a water to drink. We have to navigate round to ensure that our people have succor because they are not supposed to be buying water in gallons”, Nshe reiterated.

He assured synergy and collaboration with security agencies, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to ensure peace and tackle insecurity.

Recall the 17 council chairmen in Plateau were dissolved by the state House of Assembly as a result of financial scandal.

Our correspondent gathered the present administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang came on board and discovered that there were misappropriation of funds at the local government level.

The then state 9th Assembly invited the chairmen for clarification, but unfortunately they failed to honor invitation of the House, and the state Legislators went ahead to slammed them with a suspension and also constituted an investigative panel.

After their thorough findings, the panel noted those council chairmen were guilty, consequently, they dissolved them and communicated Governor Mutfwang to take action.

The Governor went ahead to constitute interim transition committee for the 17 Local Government Council of the state.
