By Daniel Agada, Jos
Once again, all hopes has risen for the members of the pen profession on the Plateau as the state Government promised to complete the ongoing Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Secretariat remodeling project within a one month timeline.
The Honourable Commissioner of Housing Plateau State, Hon. Brian Dadi gave the assurance while speaking to reporters shortly after the inspection of NUJ facility on Monday in Jos.
According to him, “Well, this one is not just inspection but supervision because as you can see the contractor has been mobilize to the site and in no distant time we are supposed to be through with this.
“The last time I had discussion with you I said Governor Simon Lalong is desirous to finish this work, and I have come here to declare to you that his promises have been made fulfilled because the contractor is already on site.
“The timeline for the project will not be more than one month from now. We’re giving the contractor one month and that is the reason why we are here”, he stated.
Recall Plateau State Government initiated the remodeling of NUJ Secretariat project since 2019,but decried paucity of funds as the reason why the project is not been executed within a specific timeline.
However, the site engineer handling the NUJ project, Yerima Balami, revealed that most of the work remaining is just finishing and also the painting, noting that “because of the weather we cannot be able to paint and as soon as the weather is clear it is going to be painted immediately because we are watching the weather and if we do the painting it will wash away.
“But the inner work if not for the protocols we could have started work immediately and by the grace of God we will meet up with one month timeline as the Commissioner said.
“Yes, we’re been mobilize to site but there are a lot of things that is involved. The quotation we made is about one year ago and you know the situation of this country now, the inflation rate which is about 19% but with the little resources were given we will do our best so that we would see if there is need for variation then we do the variation”, he mentioned.
