The chieftain of ruling All progressive Congress (APC) in Plateau State, Hon. Lumumba Dah Adeh has appealed to the National Assembly (House of Representatives) to expedite action by declaring vacancy on Jos North/Bassa Federal constituency seat which has been long overdue.
You would recall the seat of Bassa/Jos North constituency remain vacant at the National Assembly ever since the demise of Hon. Haruna Maitala about four months ago.
According to Adeh:” I have made this call before and I am doing it now again, that the House of Representatives should do well and declare the seat vacant so that people of Jos North/Bassa constituency will not be shortchanged, especially at the time like this when the issue of Constitution review is ongoing and the budget has just been led on the table and the National Assembly as matter of fact is working very hard to pass the budget. So that this constituency will not be shortchanged or left out in the affairs of the Nation.
“So I am calling on the House of Representatives to clear all whatever issues that have caused this delay and transmit the declaration of vacancy to INEC”, he stated.
Hon. Lumumba Adeh made the assertion while speaking to reporters in Jos the state on Tuesday, where he maintained that as a former law maker if giving the mandate, he will bring his wealth of experience transform the well being of Bassa/Jos North constituents.
“I am returning to contest this office with the view in mind to bring about unity and harmony among the people of this constituency, and will agree with is a cosmopolitan constituency because you can have a Nigerian with the mixed of people. People from different part of the country even within the state, people from different ethnic groups and religious beliefs.
“I believe that if we harmonize our views and beliefs and understand ourselves in this constituency the crisis will abette, peace and progress will returned to Plateau especially that Jos is the capital of Plateau.
On his prospective and acceptability of his candidature, Hon.Adeh acknowledged that “well, is not for me to say how acceptable I am, but since democratic process was instituted and I have passed through that process and emerged eventually the candidate from Bassa it tells you a lot about acceptability considering the fact that in the beginning we were about 18 aspirants but along the way my people choose and preferred me believing in me considering the factors especially my disposition as a unifier, a non tribalist and also a believer in the unity of the people!
“Let me remind you that there is no much dislocation in representative or being around the National Assembly because after leaving the House in 2003 you remember I was appointed as Liaison to the President on National Assembly in 2007 which I have been around the National Assembly till now, that I am adviser to the deputy speaker with a lot of my friends we have been within the dictate of the National Assembly both in the Senate and House of Representatives. So I am not disconnected with legislature as I am aware with current prevailing challenges in the legislature.
“But I believe ultimately I will do my beat to the benefit of this constituency and as a cosmopolitan constituency it required somebody with cosmopolitan background and that is how I viewed myself and offer myself as a representative that will be in touch with the people.
“I commend Governor Simon Lalong as a leader of APC and other party stalwarts, part of the reason why this initiative was instituted will be a legacy that when you have a member passed on a ticket should be return there. That has also increase the popularity of the party within our people both in Jos North and Bassa Local Government Areas.
“So I am confident that even from recent elections that held APC is holding his away on the Plateau because is popular and this will not be any different.
“One thing in democracy is the Government of people and make sure that people are involved and participate in decision making. Of course you know the Governor Simon Lalong as a speaker and Lawyer is a Democratic.
“My call to the APC family is on the democracy like this they should continue involving people, let people participate, let them feel the Government, know what the Government is up to both individually and collectively.
“Elections only hold yesterday and like I said earlier there about 17 others. It is entirely family affair and because as humans we have different nature, different temperament and different attitude to contest. Some may be aggrieved, while others may not.
“But at the end of the day as the people we will seat down and reconcile ourselves and forget all emotions and work together as a team.
“I am calling on other core contestants to bury all this sentiments and emotions that have been expressed in the course of this exercise and see purely as a family affair so that we can collectively, together take back our ticket and the seat for APC in the National Assembly”, Adeh concluded.
