Rivers NSCDC cautions against human brutality, strengthens collaboration with NDLEA
By Amos Odhe.
In a bid to combat illicit trafficking and uprising abusive intake of drugs and harmful substances in Rivers State, the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abu Tambuwal, has expressed the readiness of the command to collaborate with the Rivers State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) even in the wake of the 2023 Elections.
While commenting on the long existing relationship between the two agencies, Commandant Tambuwal noted that a close observation and investigation into the causes of indiscriminate killings, kidnappings, maiming and execution of jungle justice among young people these days could be arrogated to illicit intake of drugs, alcohol and hard substances. He therefore called on all security agencies to work hand in hand in tackling criminalities in the nation at large.
“As the 2023 Election approaches all security agencies must work in collaboration to curtail indiscriminate killing and burning of human beings by angry mob, youth restiveness and all acts of criminalities in which investigation has shown that perpetrators of such heinous crimes engage in gross intake of hard drugs and illicit substances before executing their nefarious acts.
“It behoves all security agencies to consciously and deliberately work unanimously in order to rid the nation of brutality against humans; in addition we, security agencies, must also lead by example as operatives bearing arms must avoid brutality against civilians and fellow officers as well. This is in tandem with global best practices and respect for dignity of persons,” Tambuwal said.
The Rivers State Commander of Narcotics, Ahmed Mamuda, who has earlier paid a courtesy call to the Command Headquarters of the NSCDC in Port Harcourt, expressed his appreciation with the warm reception and disciplinary conduct of the NSCDC officers and men.
He further maintained that with his verse experience in training of personnel the Rivers NDLEA under his watch would engage in public sensitization and awareness programs in order to educate youths on the danger of drug abuse, avoidance and rehabilitation of victims. The Narcotics Commander further corroborated and reaffirmed the need for synergistic operations amongst security operatives to ensure an environment void of negative effects of hard drugs.
