Police gets anti-riot protective gadgets amidst governorship, state Assembly polls in Plateau

Plateau State police command has confirmed they have received protective gadgets and anti-riot equipment ahead of the Saturday’s 18th March, 2023 governorship and state Assembly elections.

Police commissioner in charged of election security in Plateau, CP Dauda Manmam who made the confirmation while addressing newsmen Friday, at the commands’ headquarters Jos, warned political actors and their agents against unguided utterances.

He said Nigeria Police Force alongside other security agencies have made adequate arrangements to provide the citizens with the needed security and safe enabling environment to exercise this franchise.

According to him, “Adequate deployment of over 10,500 security personnel drawn from the Nigeria Police, the Military, NSCDC, NIS, NCS, NDLEA, Federal Fire Service, to the  207 registration areas and 4,989 Polling units have been made.

“It will interest you to know that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, NPM, NEAPS, fdc, CFR,  in a bid to enhance the operational capacity of the Command to provide adequate security throughout the Governorship election and beyond, has graciously approved and allocated Personnel Protective Gadgets and Anti-riot equipment to the Command. 

“As we speak, we have received the first batch of the equipments while the second batch is being conveyed from the Force Headquarters, Abuja to the Command.

“I wish to draw the attention of all actors, to the provisions of the Penal Code that “a person is presumed, unless the contrary is proved, to have knowledge of a material fact, if the fact is a matter of common knowledge”. By this, it is assumed that the actors are presumed to have the common knowledge that inciting disturbance and cause of breach of the public peace through unguided utterances and inciting hate speeches are criminal offences that will not be accepted”, he mentioned.

The CP also warned religious leaders leaders to desist from making inciting statements to congregants that is capable of disrupting peace.

He assured total restriction of all vehicles and other forms of transportation between the hours of 12am Friday 17/3/2023 to 6pm Saturday 18/3/2023 respectively.
