By Daniel Agada, Jos
A group under the aegis of Plateau All progressive Congress (APC) Youths online has called on the members of the Plateau State House of Assembly to amicably resolve the internal wrangling engulfed the House and work for the common good of the state.
The group condemned in strong terms the situation where by an individual would hold the state to ransom because of personal interest, noting that ” Plateau is bigger than individual”.
The group who made their position known at heels Impeachment of former speaker Rt.Hon. Abok Nuhu Ayuba and the emergence of Rt.Hon. Yakubu Sanda as a new speaker of the 9th Assembly by 9 out of 24 members on Thursday.
Our correspondent learned that Plateau is running a “parallel Assembly” as the embattled speaker Abok Ayuba insisted that he remains the speaker of the House.
Speaking to reporters in Jos the state capital on Friday Chairman Plateau APC Youths online, Saminu Maigoro said, we are here today in solidarity because we felt all this bickering, complaints and misunderstanding in the Plateau State House of Assembly there is so many ways to resolve them because the misunderstanding will never take our state anywhere.
“There are a lot of issues like the budget in the Plateau State House of Assembly that is still pending. We so much believed that if there is understanding and normal settlement within the members.
“We get to understand that there is leadership tussle within the Plateau State House, but, that is not even what is important. What is important is for members to unite and to also know that the state is bigger than individual. If there is leadership tussle is for them.
“But we as the people of Plateau State we are telling them that let them maintained the status quo.
“The issue of legislative matters are for the legislatures. If they have changed in leadership fine let us move on. But we cannot continue moving back and front because they have changed in leadership. Let us move on the state is bigger than individual.
“We felt as young people in this state who have a stake in the state the future of the state should not be jeopardize because of one person personal interest”, Maigoro noted.
On her part, Pamela Takai said the tussle is affecting Plateau citizens negatively. “We want to see more of legislative business in the House, let them resolve amicably and put their heads together for the interest of Plateau. We are soliciting that Plateau should come first please”!
Pius Tongman also revealed that as one who have the right to air my views and opinions it is rightful to know “Plateau State House of Assembly very well, they are autonomous and they are operating based on the rules of engagement and the constitutional law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“We, as young people we’re calling on all Plateau citizens to be calm to engage the members we have elected not His Excellency the executive Governor of Plateau State, Simon Bako Lalong.
“We must keep the executive arm of Government out of this. It is strictly legislative business.
“And for us who are voters have the right, let’s go back to our various constituencies and asked our House of Assembly members by then we will able to know what took place, how many members have signed for the Impeachment of Rt. Hon.Abok Nuhu Ayuba. Who is responsible for what and who did what at the end of the day.
“I think we should understand very, very clear here Hon. Abok was not the for person to be impeached in Plateau State, and Hon. Yakubu Sanda is not the first person to be the speaker of Plateau State House of Assembly, and by right his people elected him and members deem it fit to give him that responsibility as constituted in the Nigerian chartered”, he concluded.
